A gas turbine, is a type of continuous combustion, internal combustion engine, that can convert natural gas or other liquid fuels to mechanical energy. This energy then drives a generator that produces electrical energy.

The gas turbine is the engine at the heart of the power plant that produces electric current.

Regular Oil and Gas industry gas turbines have three stages:

•  An upstream rotating gas compressor

•  A downstream turbine on the same shaft

•  A combustion chamber or area called combustor in between the above mentioned stages

There are so many different types of gas turbines (e.g. turbojet, turboprop, turboshaft, turbofan, …) with general or sophisticated uses from motor bikes and hybrid cars to tanks, trains and airplanes. But majority of turbines being employed in oil and gas are turboshaft gas turbines that are generically used for electrical power or in some cases mechanical drive generation.

Rotor Repair:

Petrotech offers full capabilities for your gas turbine rotor maintenance and end of life assessment. Our facility in Ahvaz, Khuzestan is fully equipped with overhead cranes, balance machines, a very large lathe, and all support equipment for inspections and repairs.

Our talented and experienced team has full capabilities for blading, machining, re-bucketing and more. It also has both a rotor stacking tower and an elevator system to perform a full gas turbine rotor and compressor unstack and stack. Our engineers strictly follow effective, time-tested principles that produce sound and superior repair solutions.

 Steam Turbine

A steam turbine is a device that extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and uses it to do mechanical work on a rotating output shaft. In order for the steam turbine to work, water is heated to extremely high temperatures until it is converted into high pressure steam. Then as hot, gaseous steam flows past the turbine's spinning blades, steam expands and cools, giving off most of the energy it contains. This steam spins the blades continuously. The blades thus convert most of the steam's potential energy into kinetic energy. This specific form of heat engine, derives much of its improvement in thermodynamic efficiency from the use of multiple stages in the expansion of the steam, which results in a closer approach to the ideal reversible expansion process. Steam turbines are used with a variety of different fuels for power generation, from fossil fuel (e.g. coal) applications to combined cycle applications to nuclear power plant applications. When it comes to renewable energy, concentrated thermal plants geothermal plants are common resources for generating steam. Because the turbine generates rotary motion, it is particularly suited to be used to drive an electrical generator. They are also used to generate mechanical drive in the oil and gas industry and other industries such as marine and military vessels as well.

Steam turbines range from <0.75 KW units to 1.5 GW units. Very small steam turbines are rare and used as mechanical drives for pumps, compressors and other shaft driven equipment. Medium size turbines are normally used for utility and larger turbines are commonly used to generate electricity.
